A metallic-looking pack may use exposed metal, foil, a coated surface or an ordinary printed effect. Tell the renderer which is real. A shiny treatment applied to the wrong area can make the image attractive but inaccurate.
Supply references with changing light
Photograph or film the finish from several angles so the artist can see how highlights move. For a hypothetical brushed tin, record the direction and scale of the surface texture. A single flat photograph can hide the difference between brushed metal and glossy print.
Keep artwork and finish masks separate
Identify the areas that receive each treatment and the approved artwork version. Do not ask the artist to infer the foil region from a low-resolution mockup. If the print finish is still undecided, label the render as an exploration rather than a depiction of a final product.
Judge readability as well as shine
A large highlight can obscure the name or make dark text disappear in a hero image. Adjust the scene while preserving the material’s character.
Studio perspective
The studio preference is controlled reflections that describe the surface without turning every part of the pack into a mirror.

Frequently asked questions
Can metallic print be rendered like polished metal?
Only if that matches the intended physical appearance.
Does more reflection mean more realism?
No. Reference accuracy matters more than intensity.
Can the render approve foil manufacturing?
No. Use supplier samples and production approvals.
