Packaging artwork should identify the exact supplier template on which it was built. A new dieline may change more than the outer dimensions. Record its revision, source and approval status before replacing an existing template in the design file.
Ask what changed
Request a marked difference or supplier explanation. A hypothetical carton revision may move a fold, glue area or panel without changing the overall impression. Do not assume that dragging the old design onto the new outline preserves safe placement.
Recheck affected content and structure
Compare panel positions, orientation and supplier safe areas. Review copy near changed folds and graphics that cross panels. Make an actual-size folded mockup where useful, while keeping structural approval with the supplier.
Withdraw the superseded release clearly
Separate old files from the current production folder and tell the release owner which version replaces them.
Studio perspective
The studio recommendation is a template reference in the artwork register, not reliance on a filename such as “final-new”.
Practical review checklist
- Supplier revision recorded
- Change explanation
- Affected panels reviewed
- Superseded release withdrawn
