Drinks Labels and Condensation: What to Test Before Production

Plan drinks label readability and material tests for chilled bottles and condensation.

A drinks label can look excellent dry and still need testing in its intended chilled environment. The designer should organise clear graphics, while the supplier confirms suitable materials, adhesive and print performance. Do not describe a label as condensation-proof based on a render.

Describe the real use conditions

Tell the supplier whether bottles enter chillers, ice buckets or another environment, and how long they are handled. Use the actual bottle surface and fill process in the discussion. A hypothetical refrigerated juice bottle has a different brief from a room-temperature display sample.

Test the information people need first

Review the product name, flavour and approved key information on a representative cold sample. Observe glare, water droplets and handling effects. Fine low-contrast detail deserves particular scrutiny. Keep an accurate test record rather than selecting only the best-looking photograph.

Use renders to communicate, not certify

Condensation in a campaign render can express a chilled serving idea, but it should not hide the label or imply tested durability.

Studio perspective

The studio recommendation is to approve the physical label performance separately from the art direction of the launch image.

Practical review checklist

  • Use conditions documented
  • Actual bottle and label sample
  • Readability under handling
  • Supplier performance approval

Frequently asked questions

Can graphics solve adhesive failure?

No. That requires material and supplier investigation.

Should every drinks render have droplets?

Only when it suits the product and does not obscure identification.

When should testing happen?

Before committing to the production run, using representative materials and conditions.
