Supplement label sign-off should identify who owns product facts, who reviews applicable requirements and who checks the artwork matches the approved copy. A designer approving alignment is not the same as a qualified reviewer approving a claim.
Create a controlled source document
Put the exact product name, approved statements, ingredient information, directions and other supplied copy into one versioned document. Identify unresolved text rather than filling gaps with plausible wording. For a hypothetical new powder, a missing serving instruction remains a blocker for final release, not an invitation to improvise.
Review changes in context
A copy correction may alter line breaks, emphasis or the relationship between a number and its qualifier. Compare the final panel with the approved source at actual size. Check every affected SKU; similar products can have different approved instructions.
Record the production release
Keep the approved proof, source copy version, approver and date with the released artwork. If the printer makes a change, route it back through the appropriate review.
Studio perspective
The studio recommendation is one clear release owner so “looks good” messages do not become ambiguous authorisation.
Practical review checklist
- Named copy owner
- Qualified review responsibility

Frequently asked questions
Can the designer write product claims?
Do not use unverified claims; the business must supply or approve supported wording.
Does a printer check legality?
Do not assume that service is included; agree responsibilities explicitly.
Is an email approval usable?
It should identify the exact version and scope of approval, with a retained record.
