About the project

Built to be noticed

TANGERINE is an Australian cat-treat brand with a brief to look unlike the expected. The packaging needed to feel colourful, playful and instantly memorable, with enough visual confidence to jump out on shelf.

The launch presentation brings together an outer carton for 12 daily snack packs and individual Chicken Crunch wrappers. Both formats needed to share one unmistakable identity while keeping the brand, flavour and pack information easy to find.

The design challenge

The challenge was to balance maximal personality with clear product communication. The brand had to command attention across a large carton and a much smaller wrapper without losing its character or becoming difficult to navigate.

Every format therefore needed the same strong memory cues: the TANGERINE name, an expressive ginger cat and a colour palette built around vivid orange, hot pink, blue and black.

03

The design response

One identity across carton and wrapper

The TANGERINE wordmark, illustrated cat and colour-block system remain consistent across both formats. The carton carries the fuller product proposition and 12-pack message, while each wrapper reduces the same idea to the brand, flavour and character.

This creates a connected presentation whether the product is seen as a complete retail carton or as a single Chicken Crunch treat.

Playful without becoming unclear

The finished direction embraces colour and personality, but the reading order remains deliberate: TANGERINE first, Chicken Crunch next, followed by pack details and supporting copy.

Together, the typography, character and palette answer the brief for cat-treat packaging that feels different, lively and memorable across the shelf, individual wrappers and campaign imagery.

Built to stand out. Structured to stay clear.

  1. 01

    Distinctive identity

Build a recognisable visual idea that gives the project its own clear point of view.

  2. 02

    Clear communication

Organise the message so the audience can understand the product quickly and confidently.

  3. 03

    Designed for context

Create a flexible system that stays coherent wherever the brand needs to appear.

A distinctive idea designed to work everywhere.

One bold character at the heart of the brand

An illustrated ginger cat becomes the central character across the carton and wrappers. Its colour connects directly to the TANGERINE name, turning the brand, character and dominant hue into one simple visual idea.

An oversized condensed wordmark pushes the name across the pack with a direct graphic voice. Chicken Crunch sits within a clear blue panel, allowing the flavour to remain easy to identify beside the expressive brand assets.

Colour with controlled chaos

Bright orange leads the system, joined by hot pink, electric blue and black. Starbursts, dots, angled forms and blunt colour blocks create playful energy while the information hierarchy keeps the product, flavour and pack count organised.

The imagery carries the same direction into saturated pink-and-blue sets, strong shadows, stacked cartons and a cat paw reaching towards the individual treats.
