About the project

Sophisticated pet care with a dirty streak

MUD is a dog shampoo developed for a pet-care company in Switzerland. The brief called for packaging that felt sophisticated and design-led while remaining memorable enough to stand apart in a busy grooming category.

The identity needed to communicate the product instantly, look confident on an amber pump bottle and bring personality to an everyday part of dog ownership: getting muddy.

The design challenge

The pack needed to live comfortably in two worlds. It had to feel refined enough for a design-conscious home, yet playful enough to celebrate real dogs and the mess that comes with them.

Clarity was equally important. The brand name, dog-shampoo descriptor and core product information all needed to read quickly from shelf distance without turning the front label into a crowded instruction panel.

03

The design response

Made to be remembered

The finished label is bold, modern and unmistakably MUD. Strong typographic hierarchy makes the brand and product easy to recognise, while the orange splash and playful tone give the bottle a distinctive personality on shelf and online.

The visual system also creates a clear foundation for future grooming products. The typography, colour and graphic language can be adapted across a wider range while keeping the master brand consistent.

A complete product story

The case-study imagery moves from clean product packshots and wet label details to the before-and-after reality of a muddy dog and a freshly washed coat. This gives the packaging both premium presentation and an immediate, relatable use case.

Together, the label and visual direction balance sophistication with memorability—the two qualities at the heart of the original brief.

Built to stand out. Structured to stay clear.

  1. 01

    Distinctive identity

Build a recognisable visual idea that gives the project its own clear point of view.

  2. 02

    Clear communication

Organise the message so the audience can understand the product quickly and confidently.

  3. 03

    Designed for context

Create a flexible system that stays coherent wherever the brand needs to appear.

A distinctive idea designed to work everywhere.

Bold typography. Controlled character.

An oversized condensed MUD wordmark creates the immediate focal point. Set against a near-black label, the warm off-white lettering feels confident and utilitarian, giving the bottle a premium presence without relying on familiar luxury-pet clichés.

Vivid orange introduces energy through the product descriptor and a distinctive mud-splash graphic with a subtle paw-like character. The restrained palette keeps the design sophisticated while giving the pack an unmistakable visual signature.

A knowing sense of humour

The line “for the dirty dogs” adds a light, memorable tone beneath the bold product name. It humanises the design without undermining the clarity or confidence of the main label architecture.

Paired with the amber pump bottle, the black, off-white and orange system feels tactile and purposeful. Water droplets, warm bathroom settings and vivid campaign imagery extend the identity into a cohesive visual world.
