01 - Cover letter

For Flavio

Hi Flavio,

Thank you for sending the Whatley Manor brand guidelines, logos and 20cl layout, and for the clear notes on HMRC and Scotch whisky labelling.

I have reviewed the files against the hotel identity and the constraints of a honey whisky liqueur. Because honey is added, the finished drink cannot be called whisky on its own. The sales name must include “liqueur”, with Scotch whisky treated as an ingredient. That decision, plus 30% vol at the 3mm minimum, 20cl, UK origin, the Whatley Manor address with postcode, an 18+ warning and a barcode, is built into the label plan from the start, not added at artwork stage. Send the barcode number when you have it; I will generate the mark.

The proposal covers front and back labels for the 20cl bottle. I have set it against my standard packaging tiers:

1 concept - Essential - £999 (3-5 working days) 2 concepts - Premium - £1,849 (3-5 working days) - recommended 3 concepts - Elite - £2,499 (5-7 working days)

Two concepts is the recommendation for this job: enough to compare a hotel-led face with a second direction before you lock the pack. Each option includes print-ready files and a source file. Optional 3D bottle renders are £495. Timing starts from kick-off (deposit, locked legal copy, confirmed 20cl layout).

I am happy to walk through the routes on a call if useful.

02 - Understanding

A manor bottle, not a whisky bottle

The guest should read Whatley Manor first, honey second, whisky third, and still find every line HMRC and food information law expect, at the right size.

The product

A 20cl honey whisky liqueur for Whatley Manor. Beeble bottles; the hotel brand leads the pack.

The constraint

A 3-year-old Scotch is the spirit base. Honey takes it out of the whisky category. The word “liqueur” is mandatory.

The identity

August 2026 Whatley Manor guidelines: terracotta, hydrangea, serif script, tracked MANOR. The label should feel like the hotel, not a generic whisky brand.

The format

Front and back on the supplied 20cl layout. Send the barcode number and I generate the mark on the reverse. Stock, foil and finish to be confirmed with the converter.

03 - Label architecture

Front for recognition. Back for the law.

The 20cl layout you supplied is the working dieline. Hierarchy is planned around bottle curve, application direction and the smallest mandatory type, so the design does not collapse when legal copy is locked.

Front label

Whatley Manor Honey Whisky Liqueur

Recommended sales name. It carries the hotel, the flavour, the spirit, and the word the category requires. A supporting line, “Liqueur made with Scotch Whisky & Honey”, can sit quieter if Beeble want the ingredient story more explicit.

  • Sales name must include “liqueur”

Honey is added, so the finished drink is not whisky. Recommended line: Whatley Manor Honey Whisky Liqueur. Supporting line if needed: Liqueur made with Scotch Whisky & Honey.

  • Never “Whisky” or “Scotch Whisky” alone

Scotch whisky is an ingredient. The front face will not present this as a whisky, even though a 3-year-old Scotch is used.

  • 30% vol - minimum 3mm

Alcohol content at the required cap-height for 200ml+ bottles. Set as 30% vol (or the confirmed strength).

  • Net quantity

20cl or 200ml, clearly associated with the bottle contents.

Back label

Origin, address, warning, barcode

The reverse is a reading order, not a dump. Origin and the manor address sit with the age warning. Send the barcode number and I generate the mark, with a true quiet zone; lot/batch and any recycle mark have a reserved strip.

  • Country of origin

Product of the UK / Made in the UK.

  • UK address with postcode

Whatley Manor, Easton Grey, Malmesbury, Wiltshire, SN16 0RB. Confirm whether Beeble, as bottler / food business operator, also needs to appear.

  • Age restriction

Legal drinking age warning (+18). Pregnancy advice pictogram optional and recommended.

  • Barcode

Send the barcode number (GTIN / EAN). I generate the barcode, set contrast and the quiet zone, and place it on the reverse.

Address to typeset: Whatley Manor, Easton Grey, Malmesbury, Wiltshire, SN16 0RB. 20cl at 30% vol is typically outside UK Duty Stamps (35cl and above). A clean neck remains if the filler still wants a mark.

04 - Compliance map

HMRC designed in, not bolted on

I typeset and place every mandatory line you have listed. I do not give legal advice. Beeble and Whatley Manor confirm the final wording, and remain responsible for HMRC, food information and printer approval.

05 - Creative routes

How the work can go

You already have the marks. Depending on the package, I develop one, two or all three of these as complete front-and-back systems, not moodboards.

Whatley Manor primary logo with hydrangea

Primary logo

Starting point

Manor Seal

The hydrangea-and-wordmark lockup is the front-face hero. Quiet luxury, close to the hotel’s own stationery. “Honey Whisky Liqueur” sits in tracked caps beneath; 30% vol and 20cl are present, not shouted. The reverse carries origin, the manor address, age warning and barcode.

Whatley Manor W monogram over hydrangea

W monogram

Monogram Crest

The W and hydrangea become a bottle seal, more collectible, more “spirit house”, still unmistakably Whatley. Stronger as a minibar or gift-shop thumbnail. Legal lines stay disciplined so the monogram does not crowd the sales name.

Whatley Manor logotype

Wordmark

Logotype Line

The Whatley script with generous space. The most typographic of the three, and the closest to the hotel logotype as a standalone mark. Honey-copper on cream, or terracotta on a deep ground, depending on the glass and label stock.

06 - Process

One designer, start to finish

You work directly with me from the first dieline question to the printer’s preflight. Timing is 3-5 working days for one or two concepts, and 5-7 working days for three, from deposit, confirmed 20cl layout and locked legal copy.

  1. 01

    Kick-off

    Define

Lock the 20cl dieline, print method, stock direction and the approved legal copy list. Map the Whatley Manor brand marks to the label face so the hotel identity leads, and whisky is treated as an ingredient.

  2. 02

    Concepts

    Direct

One, two or three complete front-and-back routes, depending on the package. Each holds the sales name, 30% vol, 20cl, and a barcode, so you are choosing a design, not a layout that still needs to absorb the law later.

  3. 03

    Refinement

    Resolve

The chosen route is taken to a finished pair of labels. Type sizes are set to the 3mm ABV minimum, address and origin sit on the reverse, and the included revision rounds absorb hotel and bottler comments.

  4. 04

    Handoff

    Deliver

Print-ready files on the approved cutter, production notes, and presentation visuals. I stay available for supplier preflight questions so the approved design does not unravel at the converter.

08 - Terms & next step

How we start

  1. 01

    Commissioning

Work begins on receipt of the 50% deposit, the confirmed 20cl layout, and a locked list of legal copy. Send the barcode number when you have it - I generate the mark.

  2. 02

    Revisions

Revision rounds follow the chosen package: two on Essential and Premium, three on Elite. A round is a consolidated set of comments. Further rounds are extras.

  3. 03

    Copy and compliance

Beeble / Whatley Manor supply and approve all statutory text. Design arranges that content. It does not constitute legal advice.

  4. 04

    Files

Print-ready PDF/X with bleed, cutter, colour intent and finish notes. Native files can be released after final payment.

  5. 05

    Usage

On final payment, a licence to use the approved artwork for this 20cl product. The Whatley Manor identity remains their brand.

  6. 06

    Validity

This quotation is valid for 30 days. Printing, materials, foils and application remain with your appointed supplier.

To commission

Reply with the package - 1, 2 or 3 concepts - and I will send the invoice for the opening 50%.

If the hotel team want a short call before you commission, I am happy to do that.
